Poultry Welfare Update - Tesco AGM

3rd July 2008

Rathbone Greenbank Investments attended Tesco’s Annual General Meeting in order to express the views of our clients who supported a resolution calling for the retailer to move to higher poultry welfare standards. The resolution, which was tabled by TV chef Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall, was debated at the AGM, with representatives from the RSPCA and Compassion in World Farming voicing their support. During voting, the resolution gained significant support with 8.9% in favour and a further 9.8% abstaining. Whilst this was not sufficient to pass the motion, Tesco has expressed its commitment to further dialogue on the issue, and Greenbank was pleased to be able to lend additional credibility to an issue which was clearly of great concern to many of our clients.
