Rathbone Greenbank Investments supports action on poultry welfare
12th June 2008
Significant numbers of Greenbank clients have been involved in proposing a resolution calling for higher poultry welfare standards at the UK's largest retailer, Tesco. Using new provisions of the Companies Act which empower nominee shareholders, Greenbank clients have added their voice to claims that Tesco's own aspirations on poultry welfare are not being met.The resolution, being headed up by TV chef and broadcaster Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall, seeks to encourage Tesco to take a market leading position on poultry welfare. With supporters of the resolution having to cover the costs of circulation themselves, Hugh's campaign succeeded in raising the necessary funds and the resolution will be debated at the Tesco AGM, in Birmingham, on 27 June 2008.
